The Cape Town International Airport located at a distance of 20 kilometers from the city centre, is the primary airport serving the requirements of Cape Town City in South Africa. This commercial public airport, owned and operated by the Airports Company South Africa, is the third busiest airport in the entire continent of Africa. Recipient of the 2009 Skytrax Award for the best airport in Africa, this airport is having two wings serving as domestic and international terminals linked by a central common terminal. Situated at an elevation of 151 feet above mean sea level, this airport is having a capacity of serving 14.5 million passengers annually.

With two asphalt surfaced runways measuring 10,502 feet and 5,581 feet, the Cape Town International Airport is catering to over 95,000 flight movements each year. The Central Terminal building is containing a total of 120 check-in desks and 20 self service kiosks, along with 10 aero bridges facilitating smooth movement of the domestic and international passenger traffic visiting Cape Town. There is an automated baggage handling system in place at this airport which is capable of handling 30,000 bags per hour, together with a host of other passenger convenience facilities matching international standards.

A couple of multi-storey parking facilities are available on both sides of the Central Terminal building along with a budget Road Lodge within the airport precincts operated by a reputed hotel chain group. Apart from the private metered taxis, there also is a bus rapid transit system shuttle service departing every 20 minutes from the Cape Town International Airport enabling visitor’s comfortable local transportation to and fro the Cape Town city centre.
