The smaller of the two major islands which make the Sao Tome & Principe island nation, Principe Island is spread over a 136 square kilometer area. Home to around 5,000 people, this island has heavily eroded over the last 3 million years. Surrounded by many other smaller islands and islets, including Tinhosa Pequena, Tinhosa Grande, Ilheu Caroco and Ilheu Bom Bom, Principe Island is thickly forested as of now.
Santo Antonio is a small urban settlement on Principe Island also serving as the administrative capital. Featuring an airport, this small town is well connected a roadway network with other villages like Bela Vista, Bombom, Futuro, Neves Ferreira, and Vila Rosa. The Obo National Park, which is a popular tourist attraction, is also located on the Principe Island.
