A history lesson in the open air. The Knyszyńska Primaeval Forest is closely connected with the 1863 January Uprising. The surrounding forests used to provide shelter for insurgents, and were the grounds for many battles and clashes. The Traces of January Uprising Route (marked red) reminds of the 19th century last Polish liberation effort. The route’s highlights are: The Chomontowszczyzna Nature Reserve near Waliły – located in a vast complex of peat bogs; numerous shrines on the so called “sacred pines”; the Sokołda meadows – an uprising battleground; monumental oaks in the Arboretum in Kopna Góra on which the insurgents were executed. The Arboretum itself is named after the insurgents of 1863; The Międzyrzecze Natural Reserve featuring interesting variations in landscape; The Góra Pieszczana Natural Reserve
