Etne is a municipality in the county of , . Etne is located within the traditional district of Haugaland. Etne was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. Most of Skånevik was merged with Etne on 1 January 1965.

The municipality is named after the Etnefjord. The fjord is probably named after an old river name Etna.

Etne is situated south of and borders the municipalities , , , and , the three latter in the county of . The two largest towns respectively Etnesjøen with 988 residents and Skånevik with 589 residents.
