The base camp is situated at 4130m and lies on the lateral moraine of the Annapurna Glacier. It is the starting point for mountaineers looking to climb Annapurna I and is the ending point for trekers on the ABC trek. Accomodation options are the Annapurna Sanctuary Lodge, Annapurna Guest House, Hotel Paradise Garden and the Snoland Lodge.

During the peak season all of the lodges are open and usually one stays open even during the monsoon. Trekers should bring warm clothing and shoes and be prepared for snow. The base camp can close temporarily in the months of December or January if the snow is heavy. Most of the time phone service is available.
