Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport is the airport located 13,5 kilometers southeast of the capital of Aceh province, Banda Aceh. It is named after the twelfth sultan of Aceh, Iskandar Muda.

After hit by a devastating tsunami on December 26, 2004, the airport has been renovated and had 3000-meter runway for wide-body jet liners. On October 9, 2011 the first Boeing 747-400 took off and landed successfully. This proved that the airport could be a transit hub international airlines companies. It is planned that this airport will be one with the longest runway in Indonesia after the Hang Nadim Airport, Batam, Riau Islands.
