Happy Loka Zoo is a zoo located in Yogyakarta. It contains a wide range of species from around the World, such as orangutans , Asian elephants , chimpanzees , tigers , and so forth. Happy Loka Zoo was severely damaged by the earthquake that shook the city of Yogyakarta in 2004. However, after the renovation Happy Loka Zoo is still sought by the tourists.
Loka means a place, glad and happy. Nearly half a century ago, Syahdan, late IXth predecessor had a desire to realize and develop 'Bonraja' Kelangenan wildlife preserve as a public garden with animals. So Happy Loka was eventually erected on an area which came to be a protected forest.
There are over 100 species of wildlife including 61 species of flora. It is located in Gajah Wong river basins. Access to the Happy Loka is very easy with convenient transport by city vehicles.
Loka Zoo is always happy to try to provide the best for the convenience of visitors and the preservation of nature. Several inmate elephants have given birth, parrots incubate their eggs, as well as racehorses have had babies in this zoo. However, since the year 2010 Happy Loka Zoo began to rehabilitate and reconstruct the zoo.
