Tadoba National Park

The Tadoba National Park is spread over a 623 square kilometer area located in the Chandrapur District of Maharashtra in India. It is 100 kilometers to the south of Nagpur City and 45 kilometers to the north of Chandrapur Town. The Park is named after Tadoba, who was a valiant Village Chief and died fighting off a Tiger. 

Thickly clad hills mark the northern and western boundaries of this preserve which has a huge Tadoba Lake offering a perfect habitat for crocodiles on the western side. The Tadoba-Andhari preserve contain the Chimur Hills, Moharli and Kolsa Ranges with undisturbed forests that have not been frequented by tourists so far. 

Home to over 1000 species of plants, the vegetation of the Tadoba National Park consists of mixed teak of the southern tropical Dry Deciduous Forest. Over 28 species of mammals which includes 45 Tigers, 181 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles, 5 species of amphibians and a large variety of fishes and insects have been recorded in the Park. Animals often sighted within the Park are Leopards, Sloth Bear, Gaur, Nilgai, Wild Dog, Hyena, Civet, Jungle Cat, Sambar, Chital, Barking Deer, Migratory Ducks and Marsh Crocodiles.
