A sarod is a north Indian musical instrument, like a lute. This instrument is played for both classical dances and as a solo instrument. Ghulam Ali Khan Bangesh was the first to recognize a Sarod in order to play more sophisticated music developed in India around four centuries ago.

The Sarod Museum has excellently mounted displays of the original instruments showed how they evolved over the years at the hands of generations of the Bangesh family. The house is still owned by the family and the current master of the Sarod is Amjad Ali Khan.

For Indians, this house is sanctified by four centuries of classical music. To those unfamiliar with Indian Classical music, it is like being in the place where the Italians developed the violin out of the medieval rebec. But unlike the violin which was developed by many unrelated people. The sarod has been developed by only one living family and four generations of them were born in this house.
