This Park is famous for its population of White Tigers which is claimed to have been born to a couple of normal tawny Tigers in the year 1980. Subsequent litters of these White Tigers, known as the Orissa Strain, has been distributed all around the country and abroad to various other Parks as a result of their successful breeding programs. Currently, Nandan Kanan National Park is home to over 34 White Tigers, and proving to be, one of the best Captive Breeding Center in the World. The White Tiger Safari is organized since 1991, where visitors are able to view the rare White Tigers at close quarters from specially designed protected buses.
