Nagzira wildlife sanctuary is located in the Bhandara district of Maharashtra. This sanctuary has a number of fish, 34 species of mammals, 166 species of birds, 36 species of reptiles and four species of amphibians. The invertebrate fauna includes, besides a number of insects and ant species. Wild animals found here are the tiger, bison, sambar, nilgai, chital, wild boar, sloth bear and wild dog. There are also ten tigers, panthers and one elephant named Rupa.

The nearest airport is Nagpur (~120 km).nagzira is also famous for birds and the tiger family which has four members the name of the main member is Dendu,a big male tiger he often attacks cars and open jeeps. There are the most experienced guides who takes all the care of visitors. There are resthouses but no electicity the resthouses are located beside a big lake; there is an separate resthouse for VIPs.

The rest house is named Nilay; there is no electricity in the resthouse. There are also tents available at the entry gate of Pitezari; the tents have electricity. Nearby rail stations are Nagpur (~120 km), Gondia (~45 km) and Bhandara (~75 km). In May 2012, the sanctuary installed solar powered holes to do away with the hassle of regular filling of drinking water for animals. Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) implemented the project.

  • Visiting Timings: October 1 – January 31 — 7 am to 6 pm. February 1 – June 15 — 7 am to 7 pm. June 16 – September 30 — Closed.
  • Weather : For most of the year, temperatures are moderate and pleasant. The best time to visit is during April and May.
  • Getting there : The nearest airport is Nagpur. The nearest bus stand is Sakoli, 22 km away. Close by rail stations are Nagpur (122 km), Gondia (45 km) and Bhandara (75 km).
