This man-made ravine cut into solid rock links Chanderi’s Bundelkhand region with that of Malwa, and beyond. According to an inscription on this dramatic gorge, the gateway was cut out on the orders of Jiman Khan in 1430 during the reign of Ghias Shah, Sultan of Malwa. The passage that leads to the gate is worth examining in some detail. The rock has been cut and smoothed to ensure that no hand-holds were left. Attacking armies could not scramble up the sides; they had to face the onslaught of the defenders manning the narrow entrance.

A wall was built between the smooth sides of the gorge. In it was set the arched gate with two medallions engraved above the arch. It is also very likely that there was a defensive post to let in above the gate. It has been bricked in now, but its outlines are clearly visible. Finally, to the right and left of this post are two canon ports, much like the ones they had on men-o-war. As a 15th century Bundelkhand to Malwa defensive structure, it's fascinating.
