Ahar

Located about 2 kilometers to the east of Udaipur, Ahar is an impressive cluster of cenotaphs of the Maharanas of Mewar. There are about nineteen cenotaphs of Maharanas who were cremated here. The most striking cenotaph is that of Maharana Amar Singh who reigned from 1597 to 1620. Situated nearby is the Ahar Museum, where display is limited. However it contains very rare earthen pottery, some sculptures and other archaeological finds. Some of the pieces date back to 1700 BC. The tenth century metal figure of Buddha is a special attraction.
