Description: Records from as early as the 15th century mention the amazing benefits of the waters springing to the surface at the site of this medicinal spa in the heart of
Budapest. Later, the Turks preferred this bath as it was warmer and larger than others in Buda. In the 17th century, the fine silt deposited by the spring water at the bottom of the pools earned it the name Sárosfürdő (Muddy Bath). Built in Art Nouveau style, the Gellért Medicinal Baths and Hotel opened in 1918 and soon became popular internationally. The addition of a wave pool in 1927 was followed by a new bubble pool in 1934. The indoor and outdoor soaking pools and outdoor paddling pools were recently renovated and fitted with the latest filtration equipment and circulation pumps. Today, Gellért offers a comprehensive range of medical services and boasts an outpatient section offering inhalation therapy and complex balneotherapy.
