Description:
Exploration of th Berekfürdő spring began in 1925 under senior Hungarian geologist Ferenc Pávai Vajna. After some difficulties in the early stages of drilling, the project was finally completed on January 24, 1928. Imre Mándoki then built and operated the first open-air bath around the resulting lake, which covered and area of almost a hectare. In spring 1929, the inhabitants of nearby
Karcag and the surrounding area came in droves to sample the powerful healing effects of the ‘spring of miracles’. By the late thirties, the spa enjoyed a considerable reputation throughout
Hungary. The healing water is primarily indicated for treating rheumatic complaints, but is also considered beneficial for soothing frayed nerves.
