Qaanaaq is the hunting culture's northernmost town and the settlement at Siorapaluk is one of the World's northernmost settlements. It is in the area of Qaanaaq that you come closest to what for many is a connection with the original Greenlandic hunting culture. The place is also known for its arts and crafts from Ultima Thule that can be purchased over Greenland, because they are of such high quality.

How to get there:

Qaanaaq is one of the more inaccessible towns in Greenland, but it does have an airport where fixed-wing Air Greenland aircraft regularly land via the international airport in Kangerlussuaq (with a stopover in Upernavik). Pituffik - Thule Airbase - which lies around 130 km south of Qaanaaq is not open to visitors. Many cruise ship guests visit Qaanaaq with its 660 inhabitants and surrounding settlements, and dogsled tourism led by Qaanaaq hunters has become increasingly popular during recent years.

How to get around:

The best way to discover the town is on foot. In summer you can sail with the local boats to the settlements and in winter you can discover the town and its surroundings on dogsled or on skis.

Where to sleep:

You can stay overnight at the town's hotel, you can stay privately, in cabins or you can camp anywhere in the countryside. Whatever you choose, you are here at the top of the world in the middle of nature.
