Founded in 1846. the Museum looks after, deals with and presents the Croatian cultural and historical heritage from the early Middle Ages until the present day. The diverse museum material is classified into 15 collections. Of particular value are the collection of Croato-Hungarian kings and the collection of geographic maps from the 16th to 18th century. The most numerous collection is that of weapons and a collection that monitors the development of manufactures. The museum has no permanent exhibition. Through the organization of exhibitions, expert groups and workshops individual collections and the theme of Croatian history are presented to the public.
