Learn to sail or improve your skills at Chelsea Piers on Manhattan’s West Side, a huge sports village located virtually in the shadow of the Empire State Building.

Chelsea Piers offers easy access to great sailing conditions and is easily reached by taxi, bus or private car.

The Learn-to-Sail course is offered on convenient weekend and weekday schedules. You’ll enjoy top-notch instruction aboard brand-new award winning Colgate 26s.

Each course includes 21 hours of fun-filled, action-packed instruction, including a two-hour practice sail the final day.

You start with the basics and advance through intermediate sailing skills including terminology, basic knots, rigging, sail trim and sail shape, tacking and jibing, maneuvering, heavy weather, navigation, right of way rules and more.

No more than four students are assigned to each boat, ensuring you receive intense individual instruction and have a job at all times.

When the day is done, relax at Chelsea’s waterside brewery, savor a fine lobster dinner or shop at one of the Pier’s eight retail stores.

If you’re ready for more action, hit a bucket of balls at the Pier’s driving range, go ice skating, take a swim or even try your hand at rock climbing. Chelsea Piers has it all, and it’s just a quick trip across town.

With easy access to the Hudson’s refreshing breezes, complete convenience, the best and newest teaching boats, U.S. Sailing-certified instructors and a 36-year commitment to providing the best sailing courses available, there’s never been a better time to learn to sail in New York.
