This six-day multi-sport medley explores three of the nation’s finest national parks: Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia.

Home to 13,000-foot (3,962-m) peaks, churning rivers and stands of giant sequoia trees, these parks provide a stunning landscape of mountains stretching toward endless sky.

Astounding natural beauty surrounds you, whether you are mountain biking in the backcountry of the Sierra, white-water rafting down the tumbling Merced River, rock climbing the base of the giant Fresno Dome, or hiking alongside cascading mountain waterfalls.

Your adventure begins in Fresno, with a shuttle to Kings Canyon National Park where you lack up your hiking boots and explore the depths of Redwood Canyon.

You also hike in the spectacular Cedar Grove region and then switch to mountain bikes as you explore rolling, oak-covered foothills, heavily forested slopes and the starkly beautiful alpine landscape of the high Sierra.

Next is Yosemite National Park. The spring departure features a day of rafting on the mighty Merced River. In the fall, you climb Yosemite’s world-renowned granite.

You can hike or mountain bike the many trails and roads that dot the valley floor, horseback ride to Mirror Lake or simply relax and enjoy the scenery.

Tour Plan

Yosemite-Sequoia Multi-Sport Itinerary

Day 1: Our adventure begins in Fresno, California, with a shuttle to Kings Canyon National Park. There we lace up our hiking boots and explore the depths of Redwood Canyon, the sheer granite of Big Baldy Ridge, and the spectacular alpine peaks of the Great Western Divide.

Day 2: Today, we hike in the spectacular Cedar Grove region of Kings Canyon National Park. A rival to Yosemite Valley, the canyon lies more than 8,000 feet (2,438 m) beneath the surrounding mountains, making it one of the deepest canyons in the United States.

Day 3: We mountain bike through rolling, oak-covered foothills, heavily forested slopes and the starkly beautiful alpine landscape of the high Sierra. Sierra Sky Ranch is our peaceful mountain hideaway for the night.

Days 4-5: We travel to the world famous Yosemite National Park. Our spring departure features a day of rafting on the mighty Merced River, while in the fall, we experience a day of climbing on Yosemite’s world-renowned granite. We also have a day of hiking and horseback riding, offering breathtaking views of the picturesque Yosemite Valley and high Sierra.

Day 6: Our last day is spent visiting the breathtaking Yosemite Valley. Though we have a planned activity, you have the option to hike or mountain bike the many trails and roads that dot the valley floor, horseback ride to Mirror Lake or simply relax and enjoy the scenery. Our journey ends back in Fresno.

There are also daily options for the more advanced adventurer, making the Glacier Multi-Sport a great choice for accommodating a range of abilities.

The pace is moderate, with moderately easy options available. The distinctive lodges where you stay are the highlights of this trip. Architects took the mountains’ majesty to heart when they designed the historic hotels and lodges in both Glacier and Waterton Lakes. By style and location, each lodge features a majestic and distinctive character.

Tour Plan

Itinerary for Glacier Multisport Adventure

Day 1: After meeting in Whitefish, Montana, our journey begins with a refreshing splash of whitewater rafting on the Flathead River, paddling rapids with colorful names such as Jaws, Pinball and Pumphouse. We spend the night at the Lake McDonald Lodge.

Day 2: Tempted with the taste of adventure, enjoy a special appetizer… biking Glacier’s renowned Going-to-the-Sun Road. Cresting on the Continental Divide, this classic bike ride offers some of the most spectacular alpine vistas in North America, plus a thrilling afternoon descent. With the flexibility of van support, you choose the distance you’ll cycle. For the next two nights we stay at the elegant Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton, Canada. The hotel staff wear kilts, and you can enjoy afternoon high tea or a pint of “bitter” after the day’s activities.

Days 3-4: Our feast continues amidst an atmosphere of Old England. For two days, we’ll hike and mountain bike in this wonderland of towering peaks and blue glacial lakes. Our cycling options enable you to select from easy backroads to challenging singletrack trails.

Days 5-6: For dessert we move to the stunning Many Glacier Valley and Lodge, exploring on foot and horseback some of the sweetest trails you’ll find anywhere. As in all of our trips, biking and hiking options are available for those not wishing to ride horseback or raft. Our banquet ends back in Whitefish. Bon Appetit.

This eight day multi-sport adventure offers a casual blend of day hikes, mountain biking, sea kayaking and snorkeling centered around The Big Island.

Staying in scenic inns and cozy bed and breakfasts, you enjoy the comforts of home as you experience traditional adventure travel with daily outdoor excursions. Groups are small and personalized, creating a sense of family. Every departure is personally guided by a staff of resident outdoor professionals. Their knowledge and appreciation of Hawaii, love of the outdoors and concern for each individual offers an outdoor and cultural experience of Hawaii not available to other visitors.

Hawaii, called the Big Island, encompasses 4,038 square miles (10,458 sq. km), an area greater than the other seven islands combined. Containing 11 of the world’s 13 climate types, Hawaii offers a kaleidoscope of diverse environments; valleys, deserts, tropical rain forests, beaches and snowcapped mountains. It is also home to the world’s most active volcano. The Big Island is truly a place where an adventurer could spend a lifetime.

Tour Plan

Itinerary for Earth, Fire and Sea

Day 1: Noon rendezvous at Lihue International Airport on Kauai the “Garden Isle”. After lunch and a short orientation on one of Kauai’s scenic beach parks we take a warm-up hike following the southern Maha’ulepu coastline. Hike past glistening sands, and along impressive cliff formations to a secluded beach for an afternoon swim in the tropical blue Pacific. Transfer to lodging. Welcome sunset barbecue dinner. [Distance: 3 miles (5 km); Elevation gain: 100 feet (30 m); Difficulty: Easy-Moderate].

Day 2: Today’s adventure takes us hiking along the breathtaking Na Pali Coast Trail, providing awesome views of 2,500 ft (762 m) cliffs plunging into the ocean below. Lunch at Hanakapiai Beach. Then back to the trail head and travel to Hanalei Bay for swimming and body surfing. [Distance: 4 miles (6 km); Elevation gain: 1,060 feet (323 m); Difficulty: Moderately Challenging].

Day 3: Drive to Waimea Canyon, the “Grand Canyon” of the Pacific. Then hike through an Ohia cloud-forest and a Koa dry-land forest along the Awaawapuhi Ridge Trail. Along with frequent sightings of Hawaii’s Honeycreepers, this trail is rich with many species of Hawaii’s endemic forest plants. Lunch on a cliff-top meadow overlooking uninhabited Nualolo and Honopu Valleys 2,500 ft (762 m) below. Views from this perch are the most spectacular in all Hawaii Nei. [Distance: 7 miles (11 km); Elevation gain: 1,400 feet (427 m); Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous].

Day 4: This morning we go kayaking on the Wailua River, a beautiful and historic jungle stream. After paddling a few miles we leave our kayaks and hike to a secluded 200-foot (61 m) waterfall. After lunch and swimming in the cool fresh water pools, we’ll return to our kayaks for more fun paddling. Late-afternoon flight to Kaliua Kona on the “Big Island”. Transfer to lodging. [Experience: Novice to Intermediate; Difficulty: Moderately Challenging].

Day 5: Leave your pack behind this morning and grab a mountain bike instead as we experience off-road riding on the slopes of Mauna Kea. This mountain biking experience is predominately down hill on old dirt roads cycling through a combination of forest and pastureland with panoramic views of the Kohala Mountain Range. [Experience: Novice to Intermediate; Difficulty: Easy-Moderate].

Day 6: Up early for an all day exploration of the botanical and geological wonders of Volcanoes National Park. Tropical rain forest soon yield to steaming vents and frozen forms of lava as we hike into Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano. In the late afternoon, we descend down Chain Of Craters Road to the coast where lava has been consistently flowing into the ocean for the past 10 years and (hopefully) watch red lava hiss into the surging Pacific. [Distance: 4-8 miles (6-13 km); Elevation Gain: 480 feet (146 m); Difficulty: Moderate].

Day 7: This morning, we take to the sea with an easy kayak paddle to sea caves near Pu’uhonua OHonaunau National Park. Paddle past Hale O Keawe (priest’s heiau) and The Great Wall of Honaunau, learning interesting historical features of the park from the water. Swim and snorkel in Honaunau Bay coral gardens where green seal turtles feed along multi colored tropical fish. [Experience: Novice to Intermediate; Difficulty: Moderately Challenging]

Day 8: After a leisurely breakfast, explore historical Kailua Kona. Ample time for last minute shopping, personal activities or a swim/snorkel for the hardy. Noon transfer to Keahole airport for our final “Aloha Ohana” (Goodbye to Extended Family). The days go fast, but memories and friendships live long after you depart Hawaiian Shores.

Rockies Multisport Adventure
