Oman: Arabian Oryx Sanctuary
Brief description: The Arabian Oryx Sanctuary is an area in the biogeographical province of Arabian Desert. This region is noted for its viable population of Arabian Gazelle as well as being a habitat for several species, such as the endangered houbara bustard, a species of wader, as a part of its highly diverse avifauna. It is one of the largest protected areas in the region and includes the only free-ranging herd of Arabian Oryx in the world. The successful re-introduction of the oryx has been part of a process to rehabilitate a diverse and unique desert ecosystem.
