Denmark intorduction

denmarkThe land of Vikings and fairy tales, Denmark blends medieval grandeur with a 21st-century lifestyle.

Denmark consists of over 400 islands with Jutland being the only part of the country connected to the European mainland. The long coastline, dotted with picturesque fishing cottages, offers wonderful windsurfing and sailing opportunities, while the country’s even landscape makes it ideal for cycling holidays.

Kronborg Castle, the legendary setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet, is just one of many castles open to the public. Ancient passage graves and dolmens are scattered across the islands.

Founded on a thousand years of busy history, Denmark prides itself on being thoroughly modern and cosmopolitan. Fastidious in matters of cleanliness and organisation, the Danish are nevertheless one of the most tolerant and relaxed people in Europe.

Copenhagen, the spotless capital, enjoys a lively nightlife, and hosts one of Europe’s most exciting jazz festivals every June. This culturally rich city also has much to entertain the young at heart with Tivoli, a magical fairground, containing gardens, carnival games, and hosting splendid fireworks displays.

The fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen are often present in one’s mind when surveying the unspoilt beauty of many of the smaller islands. Denmark offers both tranquility and excitement and the country is small enough to enable one to savour both in the duration of your visit.
