Hochmoor Nature Park

The Nature Park bog lies just east of Schrems, in the northwestern part of Lower Austria, the forest district. The existing nature reserve since 2000, is one of the youngest in Austria. The park is open year round.

The peat bog, which is bounded by the towns of Long Schwarza Gebhart and Schrems comprises 300 hectares and makes it the largest marsh in Lower Austria dar. 119 hectares of the total area was a nature preserve, the Nature Park bog Schrems said. It is also part of the Ramsargebietes Waldviertler ponds, marshes and rivers for the protection of wetlands.

The waters of the marsh are home to a number of rare animals and plants such as the bog frog and the water hose, a small animal-eating underwater plant. Thrive in the ponds, the marsh irises and yellow water-lily. Even the carnivorous sundew is located in Schremser Moor.

The park has three different Schrems long hiking trails (4.5 km to 13 km), which is the shortest of the bog trail starts and ends with the mud bath Schrems. There is also the entrance to the underwater kingdom of Schrems. The whole bog is accessible by hiking trails and offers a variety of botanical and zoological peculiarities, the visitors will be explained with diagrams.
